How Do You Become Eligible for the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government initiative that provides funding and support for people with a disability, their families and carers. The NDIS is designed to help people with a disability achieve their goals and participate in the community. To become eligible for the NDIS, you must have a permanent and significant disability that:

-Affects your ability to take part in everyday activities

-Is likely to be permanent

-Affects your ability to live independently

If you meet these criteria, you can register for the NDIS.

Getting approved for the NDIS

To become eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), you must first meet the access requirements. These requirements are:

-You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or hold a protected special category visa

-You must live in Australia and be aged between 1 and 65 years old

-You must have a significant and permanent disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities OR you must have early intervention needs due to a developmental delay.

If you meet these access requirements, you will then need to undergo an assessment to determine your eligibility for the NDIS. This assessment will look at your functional capacity, which is how your disability affects your ability to perform activities of daily living. It's also better to get an NDIS website made for you so you can show authority.

If you are approved for the NDIS, you will then develop an individualised plan with goals that you want to achieve.
